The False Promise of the Prosperity Gospel

The False Promise of the Prosperity Gospel: Why I Called Out Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer
Huffington Post Article by Pastor Rick Henderson

My Comment

Francis A. Schaeffer would call it personal peace and affluence.

I've listened to their sermons. Osteen has a good heart but not very strong with hermeneutics. He admits he's not that good. So I'm more against what he preaches than him as a person. Every preacher lacks something. Meyer is biblical on most things but shouldn't be labelled as "Pastor." The heart may be in the write place but that doesn't make them teachers. If you need life principles there are alternatives in your community or if not, I could suggest Charles Stanley.

Women Don't See Their True Value

Women don't sell yourselves cheap. If you're living with your boyfriend you are saying that you are not worth it. What is the man's intention if he doesn't commit to making vows to be with you the rest of his life? It's just like a test drive. He first wants to see if it's comfortable and then decide later. He doesn't really plan to marry you. If he really wants to be with you then he should poor out his earnings to show that he will provide for you. He should in the first step buy you a ring to show that your precious to him and he's willing to put down his life to be with you.

Embracing the World

Martin Luther declared that a new Christian must withdraw from the world for a season, but upon reaching spiritual maturity he must embrace the world as the theater of redemptive activity. His message was, “Away with the cowards who flee from the real world and cloak their cowardice with piety.”

Perhaps the greatest need for our day is the need to market Jesus Christ. The church must become expert in marketing, not in the slick Madison Avenue style but in an aggressive, yet dignified way. The marketplace is where we belong. It is where needy people are found. It is not enough for the church to hang a welcome sign on her door. We dare not wait for the world to come to us.

God never intended the Christian community to be a ghetto. The church is not a reservation. Yet the pervasive style of modern evangelicalism is that of a reservation or a ghetto. We can argue that it is the secularist agenda to put us there and keep us there. But such arguments won’t do. We are there because it is safe and comfortable to be there.

The secularist hates the light and is quite willing to offer us a bushel for it. Shame on us when we buy custom-made bushels and willingly place them over our candles. To hide the light or to restrict it to a reservation is to do violence to the gospel and to grieve the Holy Ghost.

Evolutionists Do Not Understand the Origin of Life

Renowned Chemist Says Evolutionists Do Not Understand the Origin of Life

October 13, 2014 | ChristianNews.net | By: Garrett Haley

A prominent chemist who was recognized this year as one of the 50 most influential scientists in the world says most scientists do not understand how evolution could explain the existence of life.

Dr. James Tour is a well-known professor at Rice University, specializing in chemistry, nanoengineering, and computer science. Over the last 30 years, Tour has authored over 500 research publications, and he was recognized as one of “The 50 Most Influential Scientists in the World Today” by TheBestSchools.org. Tour has also received awards and recognitions from the American Chemical Society, Thomson Reuters, Honda, NASA, and others.

In a video released in late 2012, Tour explained that he has had extensive experience studying the origin of life.

“I will tell you as a scientist and a synthetic chemist,” Tour said, “if anybody should be able to understand evolution, it is me, because I make molecules for a living, and I don’t just buy a kit, and mix this and mix this, and get that. I mean, ab initio, I make molecules. I understand how hard it is to make molecules.”

You Can Answer The Harshest Critic You’ll Ever Face

Dear Michael,

Let me tell you why every church needs to care about apologetics—about defending the faith—other than that Scripture commands it, Jesus and the apostles practiced it, and it works. (I’ll set those points aside for now.)

Ask yourself a question: If you had Jesus standing beside you at this moment—not spiritually present, but really, physically there—would it have an impact on how you live?  Do you think your conduct would be different? Would it affect your sense of peace and confidence in God’s control over your life? Would it rid you of timidity and fill you with boldness?

Jesus Sweat Drops of Blood

Q. The New Testament says Jesus sweat drops of blood when he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Is that just a figure of speech?

A.
That’s what I thought when I was a skeptic. Then I started my research for The Case for Christ. I went to California to interview Dr. Alexander Metherell, a physician, research scientist, and expert on the crucifixion of Jesus.

“This is a known medical condition called hematidrosis. It’s not very common, but it is associated with a high degree of psychological stress,” he told me.

“What happens is that severe anxiety causes the release of chemicals that break down the capillaries in the sweat glands. As a result, there’s a small amount of bleeding into these glands, and the sweat comes out tinged with blood. We’re not talking about a lot of blood; it’s just a very, very small amount.”
