Mao Mentality... Still Lingering Around

Big City
I'm just getting used to Beijing and how things work. I'm learning first-hand how people are so selfish in the world. They just want to use others for their own benefit and you can really see this in a big city that is all about success and growth. The world truly needs the gospel! I have to guard myself. I can't trust anyone here. It's not nice. I feel bad for the farmers who move here because they are so honest, just like most foreigners, and are taken advantage of. I just read in the paper that the government wants to "clean up corruption". Well that just means "more control over people". I'm learning you can't trust people who are brainwashed by a heartless political system. My heart goes out to them still. It's sad to see what communism does to a people. One person takes advantage of the others and you see it in the society still.

If you look at how Mao Tse Tung controlled his people you'd understand the mentality and logic of the political city of Beijing. Beijing is the capital of China, the heart of the communist regime stemmed off from a great leader and revolutionist Mao Tse Tung. Mao didn't care how many of his own people died when they went off to war. And back home after the war he didn't even care how many protesters, activists, or oppressed people would kill themselves. In his mind it was just one person, he had tonnes of other people. Ironically all he cared about was the size of his empire and the vast amount of people in it. It was something to be proud of, much like Stalin or Lenin.

Now I can't judge by saying they never cared for their people but the actions and legends they left behind speak volumes from their hearts. We can see the mentality they drilled into society. Get what you can, use people, and you're nothing unless you are successful. You gotta get respect of people and move forward. I can see a slew of capitalism seeping into the oil.

Oil
Not only is China in relation with the west, especially with the US market, but they have a somewhat romantic relationship with Canada's oilfields. I know a few foreigners here who have already dipped into the oil of this society. And by oil I mean the whole mentality people have. Some can swim well if they understand how it works here and how to deal with the people. Now I'm not saying all Beijinger's are corrupt and corporate bullies. I think Beijing has the nicest people for one of the largest cities in China. I'd rather be here than in Shanghai. At least, for now. But I think this comes with a big city and being the star capital of communistic China. On the other hand, the capitalism slewing in from America is not making things any better for the society. Bring in KFC, McDonald's, Coca-Cola and Ketchup, and you got people with heart disease and obesity. Throw in Hollywood movies and you get promiscuity. There are women who sell their bodies for money and sleep with more than one partner. Even married men are more attractive to them because they think that those men are stable and confident. If they are really attracted to married men with stable jobs. Why then don't they marry a guy and stick with him? Do they really think a man who sleeps with other women behind his wife's back is trustful and worth marrying? China isn't too far from the American dream. I think they'll do a lot worse if things keep going west(or south as we say).

The opening of China with the west in 1985 has rapidly modernised the country at tremendous speed and hasn't slowed down since. The 1990s has been such a successful boost to the economy that everything has gone up triple in price at say the least. And prices right now even are just like the 70s in North America will continue to sky rocket. The cost of things will increasingly be difficult for locals to accommodate with. As long has foreigners come into China to work and get paid extra high wages (about 5x higher than a local), the more difficult it will be for locals to get a good salary. Try to conjure up what this looks like in a work place.Maybe you can understand why some business people like to higher foreigners. Foreign faces bring in more customers.

Facts to Weigh
There are probably more REAL Christians in China than in Canada and China has real potential for the gospel. Canada has more freedoms and privileges given by a Christian worldview, but you can see the gospel thrive and grow stronger in countries where it's most difficult to evangelise. And Christians take their faith more seriously and not for granted.

Requests
Please keep bringing missionaries to China! China needs redemption. Not only does the society and government need a change of heart, they need forgiveness from Jesus Christ. It's not that Jesus makes people act better, it's the reason that they are acting wrong because they are no regenerated by the Spirit in which we are changed and know how to act accordingly to God's good will. This is a reminder that people need redemption. God has a plan for China. Continue to bring God's Kingdom to the People's Republic of China! Pray, pass the message, fly here, or donate to a church organisation affiliated with China. Do what's in your heart!

God Bless
