Separate Studies Converge on Human-Chimp DNA Dissimilarity

A 15% DNA difference between humans and chimps is a discrepancy that can’t be ignored when no more than about a 1% difference is required to make human evolution seem at all plausible.

Why Jesus? – Part 2

Greg Koukl

I have always thought the idea of Jesus being some kind of savior made sense. The world has known many saviors of sorts, and regardless of one’s theology, Jesus would certainly be counted among them. However, the idea that Jesus was God has always seemed a bit odd. Since the Father is also God, and He is in Heaven and Jesus was on Earth, then they cannot be exactly the same.

As a Christian, though, I have never thought this odd thing to be a real difficulty—at least not scripturally, which is where issues like this must ultimately be settled by believers—because the notion that Jesus is a true man who is different from the Father, yet also fully God just like the Father, makes the most sense of all the biblical data.

Should I Date A Godly Person Even If My Intentions Are Not to Marry?

Perusing as a friend can be deceptive, especially when the other person has zero interest in going further than friendship. Both parties must have the intention of marriage when they decide to see each other. It should be the intention of a Christian that desires to spend time with someone of the opposite sex. If it's not leading to that then it's time to stop the relationship.

Taking Risks and Being Creative Witnessing

equip.org

The book of Ecclesiastes has been an enduring source of wisdom throughout my long Christian life. This is especially so in recent years as I relate more to the book’s concluding reflections on aging and death, which are edifying in a sobering and poetically unmatched fashion. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, ‘I find no pleasure in them’—before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain” (Eccl. 12:1–2; all references NIV except where noted)

Rationalizing the Scriptural Accounts of Demons and Evil Spirits

Religious modernists are prone to dismiss the biblical accounts of demon possession. William Barclay wrote:

We need not argue whether demons were realities or not. One thing certain is that in the time of Jesus people believed in them with terrified intensity. If a man believes he is ill, he will be ill. If a man believed that he was demon-possessed, then, illusion or no, he was definitely ill in mind and body (1976, 26).

This sort of a priori dismissal of the historical record is typical of unbelief. The skeptic, and even those religionists who have been influenced by the rationalistic mode of thought, repudiate anything that is not consistent with current human experience. But such an ideology simply is not an intelligent basis upon which to establish conclusions. There is validity in the credibility of historical testimony. The reality of demon activity, therefore, is not to be determined upon the basis of twentieth-century experiences; rather, it is grounded in whether or not the New Testament documents are credible.

Why Aren't People Convinced By Facts?

Evolutionists start with man’s ideas about the past and assume everything is the result of natural processes over time (even though they cannot directly observe, test, or repeat such an idea). Biblical creationists start with God’s Word, the eyewitness account of creation, and use the history provided in God’s Word as a framework for interpreting the past.

Creationists don’t ignore facts. We interpret them in light of the history from God’s Word. Because we have a different starting point, we come to conclusions different from those of evolutionists looking at the same evidence. And, because God’s Word is true, the evidence we see in the world confirms God’s Word.

Can Christians Have Doubts?

Dear Michael,
Every Christian has had doubts at some point in their Christian life. We’re all finite creatures. We don’t know everything. Sometimes we get things wrong. And this possibility can cause us to doubt our beliefs.
But this isn’t unique to Christians. Everyone has doubts. So the question isn’t really, “Can Christians have doubts?” but rather, “What should we do when doubts come?”

Why Jesus? - Part 1

Dear Michael,
When I was a young Christian in the early 70s sporting regulation Jesus-person bib overalls and hair down to my shoulders, I wore a hip necklace identifying me as a Christian. It was called an ichthus, the Greek word for “fish.”

Three Bible-Reading Challenges

Dear Michael,
Prayer is hard, but Bible reading is easier—at least for me. Yet that doesn’t mean it’s simple. This critical source of nourishment also needs a plan because you and I face three challenges in being steady in the Word:
·      First, what to read (which Bible);
·      Second, where to read (which passages);
·      Third, how to read (what method helps you and me best understand what God’s Word teaches).

The Idolatry of Vegetarianism

"There’s no sin in being a vegetarian for health or religious reasons."
For health reasons, I can understand that. But the point I want to argue is the religious reasons. What are they?

Nihilism in Canada

The fall of Christianity, but not completely from western society is unequivocally rooted in the immigration of eastern philosophy that "All is false" in contrary to Christian interpretation of the world and history that "God is truth".

What Makes Science Possible?

Another element of western culture so widespread that we no longer recognize it as distinctively Christian is the scientific enterprise itself. The common stereotype is that religion and science are at war with on another. But historians have turned that stereotype on its head.

Losing Temper

************************
People often lose their temper over little things and verbally attack others.
************************

1) Feeling extremely frustrated with what had happened that didn't meet their expectations, they need to vent their anger and reestablish control.

2) ‎Based on feelings and limited facts, they use harmful language and sarcasm to condemn, judge, blame, insult, and demand submission.

3) The bible calls them fools. But DON'T POINT FINGERS, we could be such a person from time to time.
